On the 18th of January 2023 the House of Bishops published their response to the exercise 'Living in Love and Faith'. Among their recommendations to go before General Synod is a set of prayers, named 'Prayers of Love and Faith' to be used to bless and pray for civil marriages between same sex couples.
Detractors have claimed that these prayers by definition endores same-sex marriages as they bring God's blessing to the occasion, and to bless what is labelled as sin in the Bible is contrary to the legal structure (canons) of the law on which the Church of England is founded.
This paper sets out why the Church of England Legal Offices believes the prayers to not be illegal. Others responsd by showing the flaws in the arguments when you go back to the Biblical principle of being joined in marriage male and female.
